Fans Feel ‘War 2’ Wasted Jr NTR’s Talent

He’s one of the South’s biggest stars, yet his role falls short of his calibre the film is drab, more spectacle than story

Jr NTR’s fans turned up in droves as early as 6 a.m. to catch the first show of YRF’s spy thriller War 2. A roar erupted in theatres when Jr NTR appeared on screen as the antagonist Vikram, facing off against Hrithik Roshan’s Kabir.

But excitement quickly turned to disappointment for many. While Jr NTR’s screen presence was undeniable — netizens called him “charm and menace in equal measure”— fans felt the film failed to give him a role worthy of his calibre.

“His entry was well crafted, but the character didn’t do justice to his persona,” one fan lamented. Another wrote, “Jr NTR steals scenes with raw intensity, but the film gives him very little to work with.” Trade analyst Sumit Kadel was blunt: “NTR has been presented in an extremely mediocre manner. His characterisation lacks elevation and is devoid of high points.”

Social media was flooded with posts expressing frustration that, despite the promise of two superstars sharing the screen, the story and character arcs offered little substance. Some even called the film “dull” and “drab,” saying it leaned too heavily on spectacle over storytelling.

Still, exhibitors reported an encouraging initial turnout, powered largely by the rare North–South star pairing. Whether that star power can carry the film beyond the opening weekend, however, may depend on how much word of the fans’ discontent spreads.
