Former DRDO chairman G Satheesh Reddy is among 31 Hyderabad pilgrims who narrowly escaped the devastating Nepal-Tibet flash floods. The group crossed the affected area on Wednesday morning, just hours before the deluge struck.They have since reached Saga in Tibet after completing the Kailash Parikrama and are exploring a return to Hyderabad through the Tibet-China route instead of the flood-hit Nepal route. Sharing an update, Reddy said, “Completed our Kailash Manas Sarovar Yatra successfully. We started our return journey and reached Saga in Tibet. Working out an alternate route.”
Manasi Parekh has a close call
National Award-winning actress Manasi Parekh is currently in China as part of Sadhguru’s Isha Foundation Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage. She revealed on Instagram that she was due at Gyirong Port on August 27 morning — the same location that was subsequently devastated by flash floods.
Sharing footage of the devastation, Manasi wrote: “This is what happened. We were sup to be here tomorrow morning.” The timing became even more chilling when she shared a video of herself being warmly welcomed at the same spot just five days earlier. “I was literally welcomed at this spot 5 days ago. So warmly! And now the whole place is submerged,” she wrote.
Manasi later reassured followers that she was safe, saying she was staying at a hotel in China with Sadhguru. “Life is uncertain,” she wrote, calling the tragedy heartbreaking and urging people to pray for those affected. The disaster has put the safety of hundreds of Kailash pilgrims under the spotlight. Sadhguru said 77 people from one pilgrimage group were at the Gyirong immigration centre when the flood struck, with their whereabouts initially unconfirmed.
Celebs rally behind Nepal
As devastating floods continue to wreak havoc across Nepal, celebrities have taken to social media to express solidarity with those affected. Sonu Sood offered practical help, promising food and shelter, while Nepal-born Manisha Koirala urged people to “Pray For Nepal”. Fashion designer Prabal Gurung and actor Arun Govil also shared messages of concern as rescue teams searched for the missing. More than 130 Indians were initially reported missing, including Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims.
