Chiru criticised for ‘dancing with girl’ remark at Telangana summit

Actor’s anecdote about being invited mid-shoot draws criticism online for its tone and context during a high-profile international event.

Megastar Chiranjeevi drew criticism for a comment made during his address at the Telangana Rising Global Summit in Hyderabad. Speaking about feeling out of place among global leaders, he narrated how CM Revanth Reddy had invited him mid-shoot.

“Do you know what I was doing when they came to invite me? Evaro ammai to dance chestu unnanu at Annapurna Studios,” he said, adding that he felt awkward and had to pause the shoot.

The internet reacted swiftly. Many users on X (formerly Twitter) labelled the phrasing unnecessary for a global summit. One wrote, “He could have simply said he was shooting.” Another remarked, “Why bring up a ‘girl’ reference at such an event?” Critics also questioned the tone and timing, with comments like, “Do we say such things at a global summit?” and “How do you not know what to talk about and when, Boss?”

The summit was attended by Telangana CM A. Revanth Reddy, NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery and industrialist Anand Mahindra.
