Dhanush addresses backlash on 72nd National Film Awards
Actor Dhanush is in the centre of a social media debate on his wins at the 72nd National Film Awards.
While he received a Special Mention for Captain Miller and Best Tamil Film award for his directorial Raayan, Netizens argued that films like Meiyazhagan and Maharaja were more deserving. Acknowledging these opinions calmly, he said, “For Raayan, I got a National Film Award. That year, there were definitely better films than that one. The fans of those films expressed their love, and I fully respect them.”
He noted that his performance in Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam, Pudhupettai, Vada Chennai, Karnan, Maryan, 3, Mayakkam Enna, and Raanjhanaa went unrewarded, making the point that awards ultimately depend on timing and jury discretion.
Urging the public to choose encouragement over negativity, he said, “As a Tamilian, I have received two more National Awards. Don’t brush this aside, celebrate it. Instead of tearing us down, encourage us.”
He concluded on an inspiring note, invoking actor Ajith Kumar’s philosophy that nobody can defeat you until you admit defeat yourself.
