‘Call Me Dharam’s Son’
Sunny Deol now credits himself as ‘Dharmendra’s son’

After his father Dharmendra’s death, Sunny Deol likes to be credited as ‘Dharmendra’s son Sunny Deol’ in his films. “It started with Border 2, my first release after Papa’s passing. Now it’s the same in Ikka. It is a very small gesture to honour my father,” explains Sunny. “And it’s just the beginning. There is so much more that we as a family want to do in our father’s memory.”
The Deols are working on a biopic of the legendary actor, though they are tight-lipped about the details. Says Sunny, “I am proud to be carrying my father’s legacy forward. My father had acted as the lead in a film titled Batwara directed by JP Dutta Saab. Now, I will be seen in a film with the same title. Batwara 1945 is my next release. It is directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi. Like JP Saab, Raj Santoshi is a family friend. Among us, my father, my brother Bobby and I have worked with nearly every talented director in the Hindi film industry.”
