Assam CM Reaches Out to ‘Dhurandhar’ Director for Mega Project
The State govt. plans to tell Ahom General Lachit Borphukan’s story to the world
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has approached filmmaker Aditya Dhar to direct a Bollywood-scale biopic about the legendary 17th-century Ahom general Lachit Borphukan.
The State Government aims to create a monumental, pan-India Hindi film to showcase the bravery and military leadership of Lachit Borphukan to national and global audiences. Sources indicate that the state government plans to allocate Rs 100–150 crore for the project, making it one of the largest investments in film by a state government.
Chief Minister Sarma revealed that preliminary telephonic discussions were positive. He is scheduled to meet the Dhurandhar filmmaker in August to finalize the project map. Sarma also said that if the collaboration with Aditya Dhar does not materialize, the government would approach other prominent Bollywood directors.
However, according to informed sources, Aditya Dhar will take up the project as it offers him a chance to escape the Paki-bashing image he acquired after directing Uri and Dhurandhar.
