ARR Announces Initiative to Foster Pride in Tamil

The glory and heritage of the language will be communicated to Gen Next through digital means

Composer AR Rahman has once again demonstrated his deep-rooted love for the Tamil language, announcing plans for a ‘digital symbol of pride in Tamil’ on the occasion of Tamil New Year’s Day.

Posting on Instagram on April 14, the Oscar-winning composer highlighted the heritage of the language. “Tamil is one of the ancient languages in the world that is still evolving and developing. Tamil Sangams have played a vital role in strengthening the language through research and enriching it by making adaptations to it. We have a responsibility to pass it on to the next generation through meaningful communication.”

He revealed that his company, ARR Immersive Entertainment, aims to present Tamil literature through illustrations and other new formats. “ARR Immersive Entertainment will create an iconic identity of Tamil digitally” he said.

“In the future, a building may also come up for this purpose. We will provide more information about this soon.” Rahman concluded his message urging Tamils all over the world to embrace their language and culture, adding, “I hope this effort will inspire all of us Tamils. Let’s enjoy Tamil!”

During his acceptance speech for his first Academy Award for Best Original Score for Slumdog Millionaire in 2009, Rahman famously stated in Tamil, “Ellapugazhum Iraivanukke” – all praise to the Almighty.

He has described Tamil as the “connecting language” in earlier language debates involving Hindi.
