‘Annan–Thambi Pongal’: Sivakarthikeyan Embraces Vijay Face-Off

With Parasakthi and Jana Nayagan set to release during Pongal, Sivakarthikeyan says the festive window has space for both films

Calling it an “Annan–Thambi celebration”, Sivakarthikeyan has addressed the much-talked-about Pongal box-office clash between his film Parasakthi and Vijay’s Jana Nayagan. “Celebrate Jana Nayagan on January 9 and watch Parasakthi on January 10,” the actor added, referring to the release of both his and Vijay’s films during the upcoming festive season.

Speaking at the Parasakthi audio launch, Sivakarthikeyan said the makers had initially tried to avoid a clash, first planning a Diwali release before moving to Pongal. “When Jana Nayagan was also postponed to Pongal, I was taken aback,” he admitted, adding that logistical and election-related factors made a further shift impossible.

He said Vijay’s team reassured him there was no issue, with the star encouraging both films to release together during the long holiday window. “Vijay Sir has entertained audiences for 33 years and this is his final film. For me, this Pongal is truly an ‘Annan–Thambi’ Pongal.”
