An Advance Birthday Gift For Amanjot
The tenacious cricketer has been inducted into the Women’s World Cup team

Young cricketer Amanjot Kaur has earned a place in India’s Women’s World Cup squad, and, for her family in Punjab, it’s not just a sporting milestone — it’s a deeply emotional triumph, stitched together with resilience, faith and unwavering support. Amanjot’s younger sister, Kamaljot Kaur, herself an athlete, summed up the development beautifully: “This is a birthday gift received five days in advance — she’ll turn 25 later this month.”
She adds, “Amanjot’s journey has been full of challenges, especially due to injuries. Overcoming those setbacks required immense courage, and determination. We’ve seen her train tirelessly.”
Comeback of a warrior
Amanjot’s tour to Bangladesh left her with a fractured finger and a crack in her L-4 vertebra, injuries that demanded dual surgeries and 8 months of rehabilitation. But where others might have faltered, she fought back with fire. “We were certain of her inclusion in the squad,” says her proud father, Bhupinder Singh.
From bowler to all-rounder
Her transformation into a an all-rounder is a testament to the keen eye and nurturing guidance of her childhood coach, Nagesh Gupta, who has mentored her since 2016. “When she came to me for the first time, she was mainly a bowler. One day, while giving close catching practice to kids, I noticed her bat swing had a good punch. I asked her to bat in the nets, and she batted really well.”
Today, Amanjot is a right-arm medium pacer and a dependable batter. “She has a habit of calling me to say she’ll return to the academy in 2–3 days, but on the same day, she reaches before me and surprises me every time,” says Gupta.
Symbol of hope
Her story reminds us that greatness is about tenacity, transformation, and the quiet strength of those who believe in you. As she dons the India jersey on the world stage, somewhere in Punjab, a carpenter, an IT professional and a cricket coach will be watching with pride, knowing that their Amanjot has already won it all.
