Amitabh & Deepika for ‘The Intern’ Remake
After years of delays, the official Hindi remake of Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway’s Hollywood comedy drama is finally ready to go on the floors
Confirming the development, director Amit Sharma says his version will not be an exact replica of the original. “My take on The Intern won’t be an exact replica of the original. What is the point of remaking a film if you can’t take it in a different direction? So yes, my version of the story will be different,” he says.
On working with the dream team of Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone, Amit says, “I can’t believe I’ll be working with two of the best we have, so early in my career. It is every director’s dream to work with Bachchan saab. My dream has come true after directing only three films.”
There’s another reason for Amit’s excitement. He is also turning producer with The Intern. “I’ve named my production house Chrome because yellow is my favourite colour and it has an ‘Om’ in it.”
The Hindi remake has faced years of production delays and casting changes. The senior intern’s role was initially offered to the late Rishi Kapoor, before Amitabh Bachchan stepped in following Kapoor’s passing.
