Adivi Sesh Speaks Up for Kaziranga’s Wildlife

Calling for a balance between tourism and conservation, the actor urges the government to ensure ecological assessments and local community participation in proposed resort projects

Actor Adivi Sesh has written to the Assam government, raising concerns over reported approvals for luxury resorts near Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve.

Urging the authorities to balance tourism ambitions with environmental responsibility, Sesh, in his alleal, said: “Nature does not belong to us; we are only its temporary custodians.” He has called for independent ecological assessments and clarity on land classification and mapping, stressing that local communities and Adivasi farmers must have a say in decisions affecting their lives and environment.

Proposals for luxury hotels and wellness resorts at Inglay Pathar and Hathikhuli have drawn protests over land allocation and concerns about disruption to wildlife corridors, which are vital for animals seeking higher ground during annual floods. Sesh maintains that development must not come at the cost of irreversible ecological damage or the habitat of the endangered greater one-horned rhinoceros.

Speaking about the issue, Sesh says that he believes public figures must use their visibility to highlight pressing issues. “I have always believed that if I have a voice as an actor, I must use it to make the world better. I have constantly raised my voice to draw attention to problems and issues, not just in one corner of our country. ”

He believes cinema, too, can play a role in bringing social concerns into public conversation. “I have believed that films can start conversations. When people see an issue on the big screen and, they may feel moved to do something at their own level, or discuss with friends and family. Films don’t offer solutions; they can only start conversations.”
