A Lot of Patience To Be Learnt From Jason Sanjay
Sundeep Kishan talks about his experience of working in a filM directed by the TN CM’s son
Sundeep Kishan stars in Sigma, an action-adventure heist film that marks the directorial debut of Jason Sanjay, son of actor-turned-politician and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay. Sundeep plays the protagonist, a radio host who is drawn into an underworld conflict, while Faria Abdullah plays an RJ.
Excerpts:
QWhat was it like being directed by Jason Sanjay, the 25-year-old son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay?
Sanjay is an extremely hardworking boy. He and his team have been working on this project for a very long time. They did extensive pre-production and spent a lot of time on the edit. There’s a lot of patience to be learnt from Sanjay, which really blew me away. For a 25-year-old to have that level of patience and calm while directing a film, and to be so clear about what he wanted, was beautiful.
QYou’ve worked with several first-time directors.
I’ve always been very lucky with first-time filmmakers. And not only lucky — I think, somewhere, I gravitate towards first-time filmmakers who come with genuine intent and passion. Once again, I’ve been very lucky to find a filmmaker who I believe will make me very proud, both today and in the future.
QAt his age, is Jason Sanjay clear about the craft?
He’s very clear about his craft. He has formally studied filmmaking and editing. It had been a long time since I had worked with a filmmaker who was that young, and it was a very interesting experience on set.
It gave me a whole new insight into how the present-day generation looks at film narration. You should meet Sanjay sometime and you’ll know what I mean. He is so self-effacing. Unless we told you, or you already knew who he was, you wouldn’t even realise who he is. Of course, he looks a lot like his father! But he’s one of the most grounded and humble boys you can ever meet.
