COMrade in rich' arms

If you are an ardent comic book fan, then you will not mind splurging lavishly on these comic-related collectibles.

A million dollars might not buy you any superpowers, but it might get you all the coolest things related to your favourite superheroes. Ranging from special edition comics to figurines and vintage playing cards, comic-related collectibles are not just a craze but also a passion for many. But while they are amazingly cool, they are also crazily expensive.

Some of the most expensive vintage and special edition collectibles range upwards of a million dollars with famous items such as Action Comics #1, which introduced the son of Krypton to the world selling at a whopping $3.2 million. While it may sound ludicrous to the laymen, for those passionate enough about their superheroes there's no better way to show your love than by shelling out a million dollars on a figurine. If you are rich enough, of course!

Darth Vader War Helmet

While not exactly a comic, it is indeed hard to leave out Star Wars from any list of things people are most obsessed about. This iconic helmet (of Vader), which gave the world the trademark look of one of its most-loved/feared characters, went on sale some time ago for a whopping $115,000 — one of the costliest for a movie prop. But the interesting fact is that the helmet never really fit or wasn’t even made for David Prowse, who played Vader in the original Star Wars franchise, but was made for Bob Anderson, Darth Vader’s actual stunt double!

Urban Material Chogokin Statue

For those who grew up obsessing over anime rather than characters from the Western world of comics, Mazinger Z is a name that is as iconic as the Man of Steel or the Bat of Gotham. And this urban material Mazinger Z figurine mimicking the look of the actual Chogokin material of the fictional lead character is the stuff of dreams for all manga/anime lovers. Selling at a $20,000 price tag, what makes this two-feet tall, titanium/carbon fibre figurine special is the fact that only 20 of these will ever be made.

Action Comics #1

Considered the Holy Grail of comic books, this 1938 edition is fondly remembered and collected for just one reason — it featured the first appearance of the Son of Krypton, Kal El, aka Superman. The 13-page comic hardly delves into superman’s back-story and did not even feature his trademark superpower — flight. However, it recently made history when one of the few available copies went on auction and fetched an eye-popping $3.2 million — the most expensive for a comic book ever.

First-ever prototype GI Joe Action figurine

The launch of this figurine signified the birth of a new benchmark in action figures. Styled in a Sean Connery-esque fashion, this action figure featured the first appearance of GI Joe replete with the trademark green helmet and soldier’s uniform. It created history when it became one of the costliest collectible figurines in history with a price tag of $200,000. What made it more special than any other GI Joe figurine in circulation was the fact that Don Levine, the creator of GI Joe hand-crafted this doll before it went into production in 1964.

Pikachu Illustrator Card (Mint)

If Action Comics #1 is the Holy Grail of the Western comics world, then this super rare collectible card could well be called the most iconic creation to ever come out of the land of the rising sun. Pikachu Pikachu

Thought to be long lost, this special illustrator card created a massive race for possession when it suddenly appeared on eBay with a whopping price tag of $100,000 — the costliest ever for any merchandise coming out of the $2 billion Pokemon franchise.
