Survey Serves No Purpose: Sudha Murthy, Family to Skip Karnataka Caste Survey

When enumerators came for the survey a few days ago, Sudha Murty and Narayana Murthy reportedly told them, "We don't want the survey conducted at our home"

BENGALURU: Rajya Sabha member and wife of Infosys Founder Narayan Murthy Sudha Murthy gave in writing her self-declaration to an enumerator of the ongoing socio-economic and educational survey in Bengaluru city that “She and her family members will not disclose certain personal details” and the self-declaration form signed by her stated “We do not belong to any of the backward classes (to participate in the survey).”

Sudha Murthy stated in the declaration “The survey serves no purpose at all.” The enumerator met Sudha Murthy at her residence in 4th block of Jayanagar, Bengaluru city.

In the declaration form signed by her on October 10, Sudha Murthy stated “I and my family members will not be a part of the survey" and declined to share details sought by the enumerator as part of the socio-economic and educational survey embarked upon by Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes.

It may be recalled here that the High Court of Karnataka had made it clear to the Commission that there will be no force on the respondents to participate in the survey and the details shared by respondents in the survey should be kept confidential. The order from the High Court of Karnataka came after members of Akhila Karnataka Brahmana Mahasabha, Vokkaligara Sangha, among several individuals sought stay on the socio-economic and educational survey.

After the conduct of socio-economic and educational survey was announced, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha member Tejasvi Surya had given a call to the residents to “boycott” the survey suspecting the survey had ‘political motives.’
