Speaking on Kuhl Fans Match Centre Live on JioHotstar, JioStar expert Mark Boucher analyzed Gujarat Titans’ winning performance: "They're sitting pretty at the moment, and they'll take a lot of heart from this one as well. It's tough to win away from home these days, especially the way that they won. They were very convincing with the ball — they did the job a lot better than what I thought the Sunrisers did. They lost their way a little bit up front, but then the captain (Shubman Gill) came through and played a fantastic captain's knock. He never looked like he was panicking at all, even though he was losing a couple of wickets around him. It's not about the run rate that you have to look at — it's more about the volume of runs and the calmness with which he batted. It was a great captain’s innings, and he’ll be ecstatic with this one, especially away from home."
JioStar expert Aakash Chopra also commented on Shubman Gill’s innings, he said: "You have to be the anchor. Sometimes we undervalue the importance of an anchor in a T20 innings because we see so many shots being played. Especially when batting first, you're mentally chasing a 220-plus target. But now, when you're chasing a smaller total in the second innings, on a pitch that's stopping a little bit and you lose two early wickets, then you need this kind of knock — where you're trying to keep everything along the ground. Risk is something you don't want to take too often. Shubman Gill is improving in leaps and bounds. He’s added that sweep shot to his armour — something he didn’t use to play earlier. He’s got an inside-out beautiful shot. And in the end, it’s not just the two points they’ve walked away with from this game, it’s also the discovery of Washington Sundar, the batter. Earlier, it was all about one-two-three in their batting. Now, suddenly, they've got another arrow in their quiver — which we didn’t think was available to them.”
JioStar expert Mark Boucher also commented on Sunrisers Hyderabad’s performance: "I think they knew that the wicket they were playing on this evening wasn’t the same as what they've been exposed to before. You could see they were trying to play a little more responsibly. It looked like there was a lack of confidence in their batting line-up as well. Every time they wanted to have a go, a wicket fell. There was never really a partnership where they could kick on — I think that’s where they ended up being 15–20 runs short. Or maybe 15–20 runs wouldn’t have been enough — maybe they were 30–40 runs short. But yes, it just didn’t suit their style of cricket, playing on this particular pitch tonight."
JioStar expert Aakash Chopra also commented on Sunrisers Hyderabad’s performance: "They don’t really have a drafter in their side because they probably thought they don’t need drafters anymore. But suddenly, this pitch — which produced a 280-plus score just a couple of weeks ago — now offers 150, and we’re discussing them being just 10–15 runs shy. So, 160 could’ve been enough if there was no dew and they had a better spin bowling attack. This pitch has changed. The square is playing differently, and therefore, you need different players with different skill sets. You make this team bat on a cemented surface, and they’ll be head and shoulders above the rest. But on this kind of surface, their accumulated batting isn't likely to succeed. I don’t understand why Rahul Chahar is warming the bench. They’re playing with one proper spinner — Zeeshan Ansari, an uncapped Indian player. Rahul Chahar is an India-capped player, Adam Zampa, an international-quality leg-spinner, is also available, but they’re not playing either of them. That, is slightly baffling."
JioStar expert Aakash Chopra also commented on Washington Sundar’s innings, he said: "Washington was with SRH for the longest time. They paid ₹8 crore to acquire his services, and yet didn’t give him a proper opportunity. Even here at GT, he was picked up but didn’t get a single game until today — and still didn’t bowl. It’s quite bizarre how he’s been handled at the IPL level. But what I found exciting and impressive from both GT’s and Washington’s point of view, is that he now gives them one more option. In their top three, they’ve got one left-hander Sai Sudharsan, who bats deep. But after that, it was almost an all right-handed line-up until Rahul Tewatia. Now, with Washington Sundar, they have another left-handed option. And the bowling doesn't get depleted because Ishant Sharma bowled his full quota of overs, went for a lot and still, Washington wasn’t even needed. Yet they restricted the opposition to 153. That means their bowling depth is fine. I think we’ll see Washington play a lot more games from here on — and play a bigger role too, including with the ball. His bowling is very underrated. Give him the new ball in the powerplay, and you’ll find him economical."
