Sania Mirza, a sensible bahu

Tennis star Sania Mirza has always called the shots, as far as her sartorial sense goes and her in-laws have no objection either.

Indian tennis player Sania Mirza has always made a style statement, both on and off court. Though she was initially, publicly targeted for not wearing the hijab, the controversy slowly died down. The wife of Indian pacer Mohammad Shami, Haseen Jahan, was not so lucky and was recently targeted on social media because of her choice of clothes.

When contacted, Sania’s father, Imran Mirza, didn’t want to comment on the recent controversy. “It (wearing a sleeveless gown and not a hijab) is all media hype. I am on my way to Australia, where Sania is going to play tennis,” he said, refusing to comment on Shami’s wife being trolled.

Interestingly, Sania, considered a style icon, is married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik and has never been seen wearing a burkha. On their part, Malik’s family has never objected to her attire. “Yes, she is a daughter-in-law of Pakistan, but we have never objected to whatever she wears. Being a sensible bahu of the family, she knows what to wear and what not to wear,” said Sania’s mother-in-law, Sultana Malik, speaking exclusively from Pakistan.
