RP-SG Mavericks Kolkata is ready to bounce back

We knew we had to strike first but unfortunately things didn’t go our way and we simply failed to recover from that.

It was not a great start for us (RP-SG Mavericks Kolkata) in the Ultimate Table Tennis Season 3 as we went down 4-11 to Goa Challengers.

It is very difficult to say what went wrong or what did not work for us on the day. I guess the draw was a bit unfavorable, and then we got off to a bad start. Plus, the new format does not allow you many chances to come back.

We knew we had to strike first but unfortunately things didn’t go our way and we simply failed to recover from that.

And trust me when I say this: that scoreline is not going to be a one-off thing. The league is so quick and fast that you can expect to see a few more of those big wins or big losses. I just hope we are not on the wrong side of it in too many.

Jokes aside, I do believe that we have the arsenal to recover from this blow and make our presence felt in the latter stages of the tournament.

Talking about my own performance, I admit that I was a bit nervous initially. I was not able to play to my potential which is not nice. But, then, I realized that even Cheng-I-Ching was not playing that well either and that eased things a bit for me.

I would say that given her stature losing 1-2 was not so bad. Getting that one point may well prove to be crucial in the long run.

A lot was surely left to be desired from us. But I will say that, as a team, we have taken a few positives from that encounter and we will definitely bounce back. We have a strong squad with great support staff and we all believe in ourselves.

We are capable of coming out stronger and better and that is what our goal will be against our next opponents Puneri Paltan on Tuesday.

Luckily, Puneri Paltan also did not have a great outing against the Chennai Lions and they also went down by a huge margin. They too would be raring to get back to winning ways and will surely come hard at us.

We have analyzed their squad and know their strengths and weaknesses. We have made some plans on the players to target and the matches to play safe and try and win a point or two. I think if things fall in place we should come out on top.

Most importantly, we just want to go out there, enjoy the fantastic atmosphere in the stadium and deliver our best. I believe that RP-SG Mavericks Kolkata can do it.
