Thaniya Sarai Gogulamanda wins a double crown

In the singles final, she beat Nainika Reddy in a pulsating three-setter 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-3.

Hyderabad: Telangana State’s Thaniya Sarai Gogulamanda emerged champion in both singles and doubles categories at the 14th Ramesh Desai Memorial Nationals for under-12 kids organised by the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association in Mumbai.

In the singles final, she beat Nainika Reddy in a pulsating three-setter 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-3.

In the girls doubles final, Thaniya teamed up with Nainika to beat Divya Ungrish and Aakritu Sonkusare in straight sets 7-5, 7-6.

Thaniya, who is sponsored by the Sania Mirza Tennis Academy and Upsana Kamineni Konidela, is a daughter of an autorickshaw driver. Thaniya is currently the top-ranked U-12 player in India and a national champion in both the singles and doubles.
