Hyderabad: Two girls from Hyderabad have made it to the singles semifinals of the DKS ITF Juniors Grade-3 tennis tournament being played at the Dakshin Kalikata Sansad clay courts in Kolkata. In the quarterfinals played on Thursday, qualifier Lasya Patnaik stole the show with a stunning straight sets 6-3, 7-5 win over Shivani Manjanna while No.8 seed Shivani Amineni prevailed over her doubles partner Vaidehi Chaudhari in three sets at 6-3, 1-6, 7-5.
In the other quarterfinals, top seed Axana Mareen of Belgium ousted India’s Rhea Verma 6-1, 6-4 while third seed Akansha Bhan defeated wild card entrant Yubrani Banerjee 6-4, 5-7, 6-3. Mareen had beaten Hyderabad’s Sai Dedeepya 6-1, 6-2 in the previous round. Mareen also entered the doubles final alongside partner Victoria Kalitzis, with a 6-4, 7-6(2) win over Shivani Amineni and Vaidehi Chaudhari.
