Telangana's Renee Sharma beats Andhra's Bipasha to lift the singles trophy
Telangana’s Renee Sharma raced ahead of the pack to lift the AITA Championship Series All India Ranking tennis trophy after clinching a victory over Bipasha Mehn of Andhra Pradesh with 6-3, 6-4 verdict.
Renee gave her best to be unbeaten through out the tournament that was played at Vasishta Tennis Academy, Carnival Club in Sainikpuri, Secunderabad.
In the final encounter between Bipasha and Renee, the latter’s vigorous efforts to pick points helped her drub her opponent.
Despite taking the lead in the first set Renee was found it tough to score points as her rival was confident and employed an aggressive play. But, Renee did not lose hope and kept fighting to wrap the set 6-3. In the second set the scores were level for a while before Renee upped her tempo to romp home.
In boys singles final, Kerala’s V. Krishna Sai defeated Omkar Apte of Telangana 1-6, 6-1, 6-4. Omkar gave a tough fight but his opponent proved strong enough which meant the hapless Omkar had to settle for the runner-up position.
In the boys doubles finals, Noah Jaffari teamed up with Rohan Kumar of Andhra Pradesh to defeat V. Kaushik Kumar Reddy and Shourya Manik with a 7-5, 7-5 scoreline.
In the boys semifinal, Omkar edged past statemate Vaada Siddharth Reddy in a nervy contest with a 9-8(5) verdict. The match was neck-to-neck from start to finish. Siddharth gave a tough fight but finally Omkar overpowered him to script a victory.
In the girls semifinal, ninth seed Renee won a thriller against seventh seeded Vasireddy Charitha as the scoreline read 9-8(2).
Charitha gave a tough fight but Renee was too strong with her basics as she kept picking points without allowing the pressure to build on, an approach that played an important role in her victory.
In the boys doubles, local favourite Kaushik paired up with Shourya of Chhattisgarh to beat the Linga brothers — Sidastha and Vasistha — in a tough contest that ended 4-2, 4-5(5), 8-6.
Kaushik and Shourya played the hard way to clinch the match. They never gave up on points and fought tooth and nail during the rallies as they were in no mood to give space to their rivals to score points. After an intense contest, Kaushik and Shourya emerged victors.
