We can give any team a run for money: Mahesh Bhupathi
Bengaluru: Following a triumphant start to his tenure as the Davis Cup non-playing captain, Mahesh Bhupathi justified his decision to go with four strong servers as key to the team’s victory.
At the press conference after the doubles victory, the captain said: “We went in with four big servers and they didn’t disappoint. we can play on any surface now because we have good servers and returners in the side.”
With the team once again back in the World Group playoffs, the 43-year-old was optimistic of the team’s future.
“I think we can give anyone a run for their money. We just need a some help from the draw. With guys who serve as big as this, anything is possible,” he stressed.
“I’m in a good situation. These guys have to fight for their place and that’s a positive scenario because it will push them to do better to keep their spot in the team,” he added.
Meanwhile, N. Sriram Balaji, following his debut victory in doubles partnering Rohan Bopanna, opened about the plans going into the match.
“I knew what I had to focus on. I was nervous in the beginning but I knew what I had to do so I just played my game. Mahesh wanted me to move all the time and we (Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna) worked on my returns as well. The courts are fast and balls were bouncing very high. We took advantage of that,” he remarked.
