To stoke the debate, a win over the weekend (read Paes) is more current than a final last month and a title in January (Bopanna).

Bengaluru: In the end, it all boiled down to just one factor for Davis Cup non playing captain Mahesh Bhupathi — form.

Neither Rohan Bopanna, the man selected, nor Leander Paes, the one dropped, can claim to have set the world alight with their form this season.

To stoke the debate, a win over the weekend (read Paes) is more current than a final last month and a title in January (Bopanna).

“I’m here on the criteria I was told — which is form. I think whatever the criteria is, it should be stuck by. At one time, it’s based on rankings, other time on personal preferences, on form,” hit back Paes, adding, “Rohan not winning for the last 5-6 weeks, I have won an ATP Challenger.” It’s been a long flight across continents from Mexico for Paes. A similarly long one awaits him to Houston now.  All these frequent flyer miles for nothing.
