Roger Federer, Boris Becker, Sania Mirza congratulate new tennis king Andy Murray
Mumbai: Andy Murray was confirmed as the new world no. 1 in men’s tennis, after Milos Raonic forfeited the semi-final of Paris Masters due to an injury.
The 29 year-old thus became the oldest first timer to reach the top ranking, after John Newcombe did it at the age of 30, in 1974.
The Briton will now face John Isner of USA in the final of the Paris Masters, on Sunday.
A number of stars from the world of tennis and a few famous sports personalities congratulated Murray for finally achieving that was “long overdue” for him.
The likes of Roger Federer, Andy Roddick, Caroline Wozniacki, Boris Becker, and a few others showered the new world no. 1 with their congratulations.
India tennis star Sania Mirza also congratulated Murray on the occasion.
However, renowned tennis commentator Rob Koeing had an interesting theory about a possible fall-out from Murray becoming world no. 1.
