Fenesta Open: Hyderabad's Pranjala moves into quarters
New Delhi: Unfancied Tejas Chaukulkar toppled second seed Mohit Mayur in the second round of the men’s singles at the Fenesta Open national tennis championship at the DLTA courts here on Wednesday, winning by a close 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 margin.
Vishnu Vardhan showed he still has plenty left in him as he outfoxed Paramveer Bajwa 6-4, 6-3 in a second round match, grinding out winners from the baseline to win from the back of the court.
Third seed V.M. Ranjeet was stretched by Byreddy Saran before winning 7-6 (7/4), 1-6, 7-5 and in another long match, Kunal Anand, seed five, outslugged Faisal Qamar in a three-setter. Haadin Bava continued to impress with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Abhinav Sanjiv.
Hyderabad girls at the event have done well so far. Yadlapalli Pranjala has moved into the quarterfinals of the women’s event after brushing aside Aarushi Kakkar of Chandigarh 6-1, 6-1. Earlier in the first round, Pranjala had beaten Aastha Dargude of Maharashtra 6-3, 6-2.
Dedeepya too is in quarterfinals, of the girls U-18 category, with a 6-3, 6-3 win over G.S. Vasavi of Tamil Nadu. She will next play Tanisha Kashyap of Assam. However, Dedeepya lost in the women’s singles first round, going down to Himani Mor of Haryana 3-6, 5-7.
