Osmania University women defeated Punjab University 2-0 to secure the third place in the All India Inter-University Women’s Tennis Championship played at Manipal University in Jaipur.
Bhuvana Kalva scored a straight sets victory over Rajbir Kaur of Punjab University 6-0, 6-0. Bhuvana conveniently drilled winners at will to double bagel her hapless opponent as Rajbir could only watch her superior rival pick points fluently.
In another match, Rashmita Reddy of Osmania University sealed a 6-4, 6-2 win over Punjab University’s Pooja. Rashmita started well and began picking points regularly. She then engineered a crucial break in the first set to go ahead in the match.
Pooja didn’t lose her confidence though and tried to fight back hard but Rashmita proved too strong for her opponent as she eventually took the first set.
In the second set, Pooja’s energy levels brought her down and gave the best chance for her rival to edge past her.
Rashmita got hold of the situation and capitalised on it to open up a good lead before packing off Pooja in straight sets. Meanwhile, Delhi University won the Championship defeating the University of Madras in Chennai. The final scores read 2-1.
Earlier, Osmania University beat University of Rajasthan (Jaipur) 2-0. In the first singles Bhuvana Kalva beat Nikita 6-0, 6-1 and in the second singles Sindu Janagam beat Ankita 6-1, 6-1.
