Rajeev Shukla Set To Become Acting BCCI President
He would be the active BCCI chief until fresh elections are held during the body's AGM in September

CHENNAI: With incumbent Indian cricket board president Roger Binny set to demit office upon turning 70 on July 19, Congress Rajya Sabha MP and BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla is poised to step in as the interim chief of the world's richest cricket governing body.
Binny, who succeeded Sourav Ganguly at the helm in 2022, will touch the BCCI constitutional mandated age cap for office-bearers in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), necessitating his exit. As per the BCCI constitution, no individual shall continue in office once "he or she attains the age of 70".
Shukla, 65, a former journalist and long-time cricket administrator, will assume charge in an interim capacity until the annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled for September, where a new set of office-bearers is expected to be elected.
A seasoned operator in BCCI corridors and regarded as a consensus-seeker, Shukla has previously served as chairman of the Indian Premier League and has held the vice-president’s post since 2020. His long-standing rapport across camps is seen as a stabilising factor in the lead-up to the AGM, especially with no clear frontrunner yet emerging for the top post.
The BCCI constitution stipulates that “the vice-president shall officiate in the president’s absence when the president is unavailable,” and may “exercise such functions and duties as he may be empowered by the General Body or the Apex Council.”
