Railways Corner CISF in Hockey
Sports Authority of India (SAI) defeated Punjab & Sind Bank 3-1
Hyderabad: Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB), riding on Seshe Gowda BM’s brace, cruised to a comfortable 5-1 win over Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in their Pool ‘D’ match of the 6th Hockey India Senior Men Inter-Department National Championship at the Gachibowli Hockey Stadium here on Tuesday.
In other matches, Sports Authority of India (SAI) defeated Punjab & Sind Bank 3-1, Central Secretariat held Punjab National Bank to a 1-1 draw and All India Police Sports Control Board scored a 3-1 win over Central Board of Direct Taxes.
Railways began with a bang as they raided the rival fortress from the word go. Their aggression paid off as they were able to get two goals in the first five minutes of play.
Rohit began the scoring when he struck off a penalty corner in the 3rd minute of play. Two minutes later, Arshdeep Singh made it 2-0 with a field goal.
CISF reduced the deficit in the 11th minute when Manoj Yadav scored from a penalty corner. Sheshe Gowda restored Railways’ two-goal advantage in the 13th minute, as an action-packed first quarter produced four goals.
Thereafter, the teams were not able to breach the rival citadel as the defenders held fort. Sheshe Gowda made it 4-1 when he converted a penalty corner in the 26th minute as Railways went into the break with a considerable advantage.
Upon resumption, most of the action was confined to the midfield. However, Pardeep Singh struck in the 33rd minute to make it 5-1. Railways held on to their advantage and did not allow CISF to make inroads into their territory.
In Pool ‘B’, SAI, who had given last year’s runners-up Comptroller & Auditor General of India (CAG) a run for their money before falling on Monday, were back in their element. They put behind the loss and gained full points from Punjab & Sind Bank.
After a barren first quarter, SAI managed to breach the rival fortress with a goal in the 29th minute. Nitesh Sharma beat the rival goalie to put his side 1-0 up.
