Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were crowned the champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Sunday. They defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer after receiving the IPL trophy, recreated Lionel Messi's World Cup celebration when Argentina won the FIFA World Cup 2022.
KKR registered a comfortable 8-wicket win over SRH in the final.
Batting first, Sunrisers, who showed great batting performance in the season, lost wickets regularly with their star openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, who had a good season, failed to fire for the team. KKR bowlers bowled out SRH for just 113.
SRH skipper Pat Cummins top scored for the team with 24 runs.
In reply, KKR chased the target comfortably with the help of Venkatesh Iyer in 10.3 overs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad posted lowest ever total in the history of tournaments final.
