Fiba U-18: India storm past hapless Guam
Bengaluru: India racked up their second win by defeating Guam 107-42 in the 2018 FIBA U-18 Asia Women's basketball Championship match at the Kanteereva Indoor stadium here on Monday. It was a comprehensive performance after a tense thriller against Iran on Sunday.
India managed to keep Guam at an arms length throughout the duration of the match by maintaining a healthy lead which was evident at the half-time break as India lead 50-22. Srishti Suren racked up 19 points and was the top scorer in the Indian side. India earned the bulk of their points (34) by breaking quickly.
Earlier in the day China hung on for a win against a spirited New Zealand (67-58) side who pushed them to the limit in Group A. Australia recorded another big tally as they defeated Chinese Taipei 106-66 in group A through Miela Goodchild's all round brilliance. This was the second straight win for Australia, the Oceania champions, after their easy 96-28 win over Indonesia in their opening match. Meila Goodchild scored 27 points and also collected 10 rebounds and provided two assists to star in the victory for the impressive Aussies. Yu-Chieh Chen matched her rival basket for basket and scored 21 points for the Taipei team but to no avail. This was their second straight defeat having lost to Korea Republic on Sunday.
