Sushil Kumar to join WWE next year?
Mumbai: Sushil Kumar is set to turn towards professional wrestling, with WWE being the most likely destination for the star Indian grappler, towards the end of next year.
Sushil has had a disappointing year, failing to qualify for the Rio Olympics, as the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) had selected Narsingh Yadav to represent India at the Olympics. Narsingh had earned India a berth in the Olympics by winning a bronze in the 2015 World Championship.
Narsingh was given a clean chit to go to the Olympics despite testing positive for a banned substance, weeks before the multi-sport event. However, he was suspended for four years after a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) trial was held during the Olympics.
According to a report in Indian sports news portal Sportskeeda, Sushil had received offers from a number of pro-wrestling organisations like TNA and WWE. Although an agreement regarding the financial matters has been reached with WWE, it is still unclear when Sushil will join the organisation.
According to the report, the controversy with Narsingh has increased the 33-year-old’s eagerness to win more medals for his country, as an amateur wrestler. This is why Sushil is expected to join the WWE in November 2017, after giving it another go during next year’s amateur wrestling season.
