Aamir Khan's Dangal' on floor, Phogat sisters out of Rio

Grapplers disqualified from Olympic qualifiers, may face life ban.

Mumbai: Much before the release of ‘Dangal’ — the film starring Aamir Khan and based on Mahavir Singh Phogat on how he taught wrestling to his daughters Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat — the Phogat sisters’ Rio Olympics dream came to an end.

The grapplers have been disqualified from the Rio games.

According to a report in dna, an error in judgement on the part of Phogat sisters ruled them out. Geeta forfeited her 53kg bout against China’s Zhou Zhangting; Babita didn’t turn up against Mexico’s Alma Jane Valencia in the Olympic qualifier event.

Though the film will release after Rio Olympics, the women – had they been successful in Rio – could have added flavour to the excitement.

The report added that the sisters may face a life ban too after forfeiting the repechage bout. The organisers announced several times but they didn’t turn up. The sisters apparently carried an injury. But the team’s head coach had not informed delegates about it.

The sisters have been given time till May 15 to reply.

Lalita Kumari has been roped in as Babita’s replacement in 53 kg; Sakshi Malik in place of Geeta in 58 kg.
