India got off to a flyer with a 2nd minute goal by Akashdeep Singh, and never looked back from that point on.

Melbourne: India demolished Malaysia 4-1 in the third-placed playoff-match of the four-nation tournament, to finish third, on Sunday.

The Indians got off to a flying start after Akashdeep Singh put them into the lead in the 2nd minute of the match. India’s advantage was soon doubled, as captain VR Raghunath converted a 45th minute penalty.

While Malaysia’s Joel van Huizen pulled one back, Talwinder Singh finished off good chance from open play to restore India’s two-goal lead. India romped home to an easy win after Rupinder Pal Singh scored his sixth goal of the tournament in the 58th minute.

In the women’s event, India suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of Australia, in the deciding match of the three-game Test series. Vandana Kataria lead the Indian eves from the front, putting them in the lead on the 17th minute.

However, the Australians came back strongly in the second half to score three goals and take the series 2-1.
