Ch. Padma Sree, Akhilesh Konajya and D.V.N. Vaishnavi secured two medals each in their respective games at the Junior Athletic meet for Boys and Girls U-14 & U-16 conducted by Hyderabad District Athletics Association at GMC Balayogi Athletics Stadium in Gachibowli, Hyderabad.
In the Under-16 boys section, Akhilesh secured gold in the 100 metres as he clocked 11.5 seconds followed by B. Rahul (12.2 seconds) and Abdul Rehman (12.8 seconds).
Akhilesh also overpowered his rivals in the 200 metres to clinch gold as he finished in 23 seconds while M. Vishnu Revanth Reddy (24.9 seconds) and P. Shashank (25.1 seconds) claimed second and third positions respectively.
Ch. Padma Sree notched up a scintillating performance in the 100m and 200m races of the Under-16 girls category. Padma finished the 100 metres in 13.1 seconds as Kruthika and Rugesha settled for second and third places.
Kruthika finished second in both 100 as well as 200 metres by clocking 13.9 seconds and 29.2 seconds respectively. In the 100 metres race it was just 0.8 seconds gap between the topper and Kruthika. And in 200m 2.1 seconds separated the first two finishers.
Despite giving her best Kruthika had to settle for the second place in both the events.
Rugesha settled for the third place in both 100 and 200 metres following Padma Sree and Kruthika, who took first and second spots.
In the Under-16 girls section, Vaishnavi won a top spot in shot put and settled for a second place in the discus throw. Vaishnavi threw the iron ball to 8.29 metres to seal the top spot. She also gave her best in the discus throw but settled for second place after sending the disc flying to 19.85m.
