Boxer Nikhat Zareen comes home, sets sights on Olympic spot

Speaking on the occasion, Ms Zareen said her goal was to win the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Hyderabad: Sport minister V. Srinivas Goud and TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao have assured all help from the government to Nikhat Zareen, who recently won the gold in the 51 kg category in the 70th International Boxing Tournament Strandja at Sofia, Bulgaria.

Zareen who arrived from Bulgaria on Monday was received by Sports Authority of Telangana State chairman Allipuram Venkateshwar Reddy at the Shamsabad airport.

She was taken to the TRS headquarters in a rally where she met Mr Goud and Mr Rama Rao. Both leaders congratulated Ms Zareen on her achievement.

Later a felicitation function was held at a hotel by various organisations in which Telangana State Finance Corporation chairman Syed Akbar Hussain, Wakf Board chairman Mohammed Saleem, Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin particpated.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms Zareen said her goal was to win the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

She said she would have to dedicate all her time to prepare for the qualification rounds next year where she will have to defeat six-time world champion Mary Kom.
