KANNUR: Kannur District administration is planning series of events to promote adventure tourism.  The district administration with the help of district tourism promotion council is conducting a kayaking camp in Anjarakandy River on the month end.  Earlier this year, they had a river expedition at Kattampally River.  Last week's vertical marathon to Paithalmala was also a huge success.

District collector Mir Mohammed Ali said a proposal to purchase kayaks was before the government.  The DTPC will operate them at adventure tourism destinations.  "The two-day kayaking camp at Anjarakandy aims at popularising the sport in the region," he told DC. They are also planning to convert Paithalmala Vertical Marathon into an annual event that people from across the country can participate.

"People have a misconception that it is dangerous and risky to visit adventure tourism spots. We wanted to create awareness among the public that it is not like that and in a bid to popularise it, I along district police chief, assistant collector and subcollector had undergone a white water rafting on Sunday," he said.  Earlier this year, he had undertaken kayaking through Perumba, Kattampally and Kavvayi rivers to assess the condition and scopes for water sports.
