Dare to challenge

This is the reason why Rahul is inviting sponsors who would understand his purpose and extend a helping hand.

It is a wrong perception that scientists are people without any social life and that they only think about rockets and satellites. Rahul, a 33-year-old scientist from ISRO is all set to change these perceptions and is getting trained for the Ironman Triathlon that will take place on August 17 at Kalmar, Sweden, and he is the first from ISRO to take part in the race. The scientist thought of giving it a try as staying fit has been a daily routine for him since college days. Asked about the training plan, Rahul says, “My training mostly includes base building, form correction, strength training etc. It is followed by endurance building, peak performance training and then tapering towards the race period. Also, I do back-to-back workouts like 40km ride+5km run called brick workout, as it helps me adapt to run on tired legs after the ride.”

“I did Half Ironman Hyderabad in 2017. So, I’m confident about this. Ironman Challenge requires more focus on open water swim sessions. I am therefore planning to go to Ernakulam for doing it in Periyar River. Kovalam is also an option.”

Rahul adds that Ironman challenge is an expensive affair as participants are required to buy apparels for all the three sports. It will cost him at least Rs 2 lakh to compete. This is the reason why Rahul is inviting sponsors who would understand his purpose and extend a helping hand.
