Hyderabad Monsoon Horse Racing Season kicks off

The season, which will conclude on October 25, comprises 28 race days.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Monsoon Horce Racing Season, organised by the Hyderabad Race Club, gets underway on Thursday with the eight-race card featuring the Madras Race Club Cup at the Malakpet Race Course

There’s a bump in prize money with a total advertised stake of Rs 14.55 crore as against Rs 11.97 crore last year. This includes trophies worth Rs 30.87 lakh and performance incentives for race horse owners. The stakes-horse ratio offered at the Hyderabad Race Club are the highest in the country — Rs 2.71 lakh per horse — according to a HRC press release on Wednesday.

There are 10 important races scheduled this season — The Hazare Stud Golconda Juvenile Million Grade III (August 8), The Governor’s Cup (August 21), The Nizam’s Gold Cup Grade II (August 22), The Deccan Fillies Championship Stakes Grade III (August 29), The Deccan Colts Championship Stakes Grade III (September 5), The President of India Gold Cup Grade I (September 11), The Chief Minister’s Cup (September 18), The Deccan Derby Grade I (October 2), The Melbourne Racing Club Trophy (October 3) and The Golconda St Leger Grade II (October 24).

The HRC also announced the construction of a state-of-the-art off-course tote centre in Vijayawada; one was opened at Lower Tank Bund in the city in June. They are also planning to install self-vending betting machines to facilitate punters to place their bets using smart cards.
