Eagles, BHEL enter semi-finals

The last quarter saw a brief fightback from the Shooters but they fell short by 10 points in their effort to upset the winners.

BHEL and Eagles Club Secunderabad continued to deliver match-winning performances as they progressed to the semifinals of the of the Nawaz Shujath Ahmed Khan Memorial Basketball tournament being played at City College courts.

The quarterfinals played between BHEL and Sharp Shooters saw a tough fight between the teams. However, despite facing some stiff resistant from the Shooters, BHEL managed to carve out a 57-47 win and grab the ticket to semis.

The BHEL men had the experience and height to negotiate the challenge posed by the youngsters of Shooters.

The winners kept scoring through the lanky Rahul under the board and some fast breaks by Raju as the boys from Sharp Shooters failed to control the defensive rebounds.

At half-time, BHEL managed a slender 7-point lead over their opponents as the scoreline read 29-22. In the third quarter too, the winners continued their emphatic performance and increased their lead further to 18 points with the score reading as 48-30.

The last quarter saw a brief fightback from the Shooters but they fell short by 10 points in their effort to upset the winners. With 13 points each, Raju and Paul were the main scorers. They were wonderfully assisted by Srikanth while Ashwin caught the eye with 17 points. Omer was another strong player. He contributed 12 points to his team’s cause.

In another match, Eagles emerged too powerful for the Rajendranagar Basketball Club as they outclassed them with a dominating 52-28 score. Eagles had full control on the match from the word go as their main scorers Rohan and Aman went on a scoring spree.

The first quarter saw Eagles ahead by 8 points (13-5). However, they further capitalised on their lead and took it to an impressive 18 points by the end of the second quarter with the scores reading as 29-11. Rohan top scored with 21 points while Aman scored 15. Saleem was the lone ranger for RBC. He summoned all his skills to score 16 points.
