Jharkhand to introduce pension for daily wage sportspersons

Jharkhand govt chief secy promised to chalk out a proposal to train sportspersons selected for national or international sporting events.

Ranchi: Jharkhand government will introduce a pension scheme for those sports persons who brought laurels to the state or the country, but are still working as daily wager.

Chief Secretary Rajbala Verma issued the direction, on Monday, to prepare a sportsperson pension scheme for those players who had brought glory for the state or country, but are still working as a daily wagers, an official release said.

Reviewing the departments of Tourism, Sports, Art and Culture, Verma also called for preparing a list of such sports persons from Jharkhand who participated or won in Olympics/Asian/National Games so that they could be recruited as coaches.

She also promised to chalk out a proposal to train sportspersons selected for national or international sporting events.

“Schools should give priority to sports so that children could be encouraged,” she said and directed to set up a 'diet food fund' for sports persons selected for national events.
