Patna: 14-year-old Patna boy Robin Banerjee has been selected to train at the National Basketball Association (NBA) academy in Delhi, something that promises to propel his career in the hoop-sport miles forward.

Banerjee, who is a class 9 student in a Varanasi school, had to go through two-tier selection trials in Kolkata and Noida, to make it to the NBA academy, which is set to be the fifth NBA elite training centre.

NBA star Kevin Durant is set to visit the elite academy later this year.

“I am extremely happy for making the grade. Now, I’m looking forward to my training stint alongside my studies,” Banerjee was quoted as saying in Hindustan Times.

Till now, only four Indian cagers have been able to make it to professional leagues outside the country – Satnam Singh and Palpreet Singh (USA), and Amjyot singha and Amritpal Singh (Japan).
