Youth National basketball at Hassan
Bengaluru: The 33rd Youth National Championship for boys and girls is set to be held in Hassan from Nov. 19-26. The championship which will witness 46 teams including 26 boys’ teams and 22 girls teams will be held at the Hasanamba stadium and the Malnad College of Engineering, said Karnataka State Basketball Association president K. Govindraj, on Wednesday.
Speaking about the championship, he said the idea behind organising the event at Hassan was to improve the sporting standards in rural areas.
The prize money for the winning team will be Rs. 75,000 while the runners-up will be awarded 50,000 with the third-placed team getting Rs 20,000.
It was also announced that the senior national team will take part in the Shueng Kung Cup at Hong Kong from Dec. 13-18. Govindraj also revealed that India will aggressively bid for the FIBA U-16 Asia championship for women to be held next year.
U-18 girls to be feted
The KSBBA will also felicitate the U-18 girls’ team which won the junior National basketball championship at Pondicherry in May.
“A cash prize of Rs 5 lakhs will be awarded to the girls team which won after 27 years,” added Govindraj.
