India set to be hockey hotbed, says Narinder Batra

Batra spelt out plans to expand geographical boundaries and increase FIH's revenue as he begins his four-year term with the international body.

New Delhi: Newly-elected International Hockey Federation president Narinder Batra on Tuesday said that India has called truce with Pakistan over a bitter feud following the 2014 Champions Trophy tournament at Bhubaneshwar, opening the gates for regular hockey exchange between the two nations.

Batra spelt out plans to “expand geographical boundaries” and “increase FIH’s revenue” as he begins his four-year term with the international body.

Earlier this week, Batra became the first Asian head of the FIH since the body’s inception in 1924. Besides the World Cup, India will also host the Asian Champions Trophy and the Youth Olympic qualifiers in 2018, he announced.
