Indians are more empathetic: Dr Nithin Kumar
Indian sportspersons are in the news at Rio 2016. But what about the individuals who work tirelessly with them — coaches, physiotherapists and doctors? Like Dr Nithin Kumar, who is currently the team doctor for the Indian Davis Cup team. He has also treated India’s tennis, rowing and badminton Olympic squad.
In 2012, Dr Kumar returned to India after 12 years of practice in the UK. What made him return, when so many Indian doctors choose to rather practice abroad?
“It definitely wasn’t an easy decision to take but I’m very happy to have made the move. The sense of belonging, the culture and my family are the reasons I came back. I wanted my kids to grow up here and adopt the culture,” he says.
He also cites professional satisfaction for bringing him back to the motherland. “There is so much satisfaction when you serve your own people. People in India are far more empathetic and thankful than any other part of the world. It feels so good to hear a kind feedback from my patients at the end of the day.”
