Paralympics: Deepa Malik wins silver in women's shot put-F53
Deepa Malik has become the first woman from India to earn a Paralympics medal.
Deepa Malik on Monday became the first woman from India to earn a Paralympics medal. Deepa secured a silver medal in the women’s shot put–F53 final with a personal best throw of 4.61m.
Deepa finished behind Bahrain’s Fatema Nedham, who won the gold medal with a best throw of 4.76m. Dimitra Korokida of Greece won the bronze with a best throw of 4.28m.
This is India’s third medal of the Rio Paralympic Games, earlier Thangavelu Mariyappan of Tamil Nadu had won the gold in men's high jump T-42 event by jumping a personal best of 1.89m. Varun Singh Bhati also secured a bronze in the same event.
