Paris: Giants are cut out for big matches but Portugal and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo had to pull out of the European Championship final within 25 minutes due to an injury. The 31-year-old fell out of steam recently and hasn’t been at his best but his team ensured he had the last laugh.

His ending could have been tragic had Portugal lost the battle to France.

Rather, France’s ploy and strategy went for a toss once Ronaldo bowed out.

Fans thought it was his night but a strong challenge from Dimitri Payet caught the star footballer’s knee.

The Portuguese skipper was booed by the crowd as he limped back to the changing room. Bookings or not, Ronaldo was out of the mega final.

Eder scored in the 109th minute of extra time to take Portugal past France in style. The man who failed to find the target in his last 15 appearances for Swansea City last season made Ronaldo’s dream come true.

Fans on social media mourned Ronaldo’s absence and kept supporting the star throughout the final.
