Much-needed push for talent

Crowd-funding platform Milaap is engaged in supporting young athlete Athulya, the second runner-up in the State Junior Meet.

Running has been Athulya’s passion since childhood. The 16-year-old sprinter from Wayanad who takes part in the 800-metre dash was selected to the prestigious P.T.Usha School in 2014. She recently participated in the State Junior Meet held at Ernakulam where she emerged as the second runner-up.

Athulya follows a strict routine. At 7.30 am, she would be ready for the morning practice which would go on till 9 am. Then, she would go to school. At 4 pm, she would be back on the track for practice until 6 pm.

Although she is quite passionate about the sport, her family is not financially strong enough to support her dreams. Her family comprises a daily wage labourer dad, a homemaker mom, a twin brother studying in Class XII and a sister pursuing her third year in Polytechnic.

Now, Milaap, a crowd-funding platform, has come forward to collect money to help Athulya with her training for the next six months. Donations are expected from benevolent hearts for her training which requires about Rs 20,000 every month. For further details, log onto https://milaap.org/fundraisers/athulya-sports.
