Vijender Singh set to defend his title
New Delhi: Vijender Singh will defend his WBO Asia Pacific super middleweight title on December 17 here but the opponent for the clash will be decided later.
The card will also see top Indian boxers, including Akhil Kumar and Jitender Kumar, make their pro boxing debuts. The names of these boxers and their international opponents would be revealed soon.
So far, Vijender has a record of seven out of seven wins with six knockouts in 27 rounds. The Haryana dasher won the title in front of delirious home fans beating Kerry Hope of Australia in 10 rounds in the capital on July 16.
Vijender’s title defence bout is expected to be as big a hit among the fans as was his title victory that came in front of a 6,000 strong audience. Commenting on his next fight, Vijender said, “I have been in Manchester for the last two months, training hard for my next fight. My trainer has been giving me high intensity training sessions, which has made my punches more powerful than before.
“I am ready to fight anybody suggested by the World Boxing Organisation. I am confident that I will be able to defend my title with as much pride as I won it. I am looking forward to it and hope to repeat history,” he added. Tickets will go for sale soon.
