Conor McGregor, Holly Holm top the MMA awards
Even from 5,000 miles away, Conor McGregor can still make his voice heard.
The UFC featherweight champion was named Fighter of the Year at the World MMA Awards in Las Vegas.
Unable to attend as he trains for his upcoming fight against lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in Dublin, McGregor sent an acceptance speech via video.
“I’d like to thank you for the award, and for last year’s award which I also couldn’t collect,” he said.
“The Breakthrough Fighter of the Year... it was an honour to break through and kill the entire game in less than two years, nobody can touch me.
“I apologise for not being there, there’s another man who must be slained, another champion who must be dethroned.” McGregor was also named International Fighter of the Year while women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm picked up a string of awards.
As well as being named Female Fighter of the Year, Holm, who was at the ceremony, won the Knockout and Upset of the Year awards after her win over Ronda Rousey.
Other fighters present included Paige VanZant, Urijah Faber, Aljamain Sterling, and Frank Mir.
