CWG show will help us in Jakarta: Madhurika Patkar

India won eight medals at the Gold Coast event, including a women's team gold and an individual gold by Manika Batra.

Mumbai: Senior paddler Madhurika Patkar believes a strong show at the Commonwealth Games has instilled fear among India’s opponents, which will help their cause in the upcoming Asian Games.

India won eight medals at the Gold Coast event, including a women’s team gold and an individual gold by Manika Batra.

Patkar was part of the women’s team along with Batra and Mouma Das that won the team gold, beating Singapore in the final.

“People started looking at Indian table tennis with respect after our CWG performance. It has instilled some fear in the mind of opponents, which is good for us. We now have confidence to win big matches,” she said on Tuesday.

She admitted the level of expectations has gone up but competing in the Asian Games will be tough.

“The competition will be tough. There will be China, Korea and other top countries. This tournament is equivalent to World Championships,” he said.

The 31-year-old said they have been playing regularly after the CWG and are in good form.

“We played in the World Championship, and in other tournaments in Australia and Korea and also at domestic level. We are in good form and are looking forward to Asian Games,” she said.
