AP skaters win 16 medals in national championship

Eleven skaters from Andhra Pradesh won 16 medals, including 6 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze.

Visakhapatnam: Eleven skaters from Andhra Pradesh won 16 medals, including 6 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze in the 13th National Ice Skating Championship held at iSKATE ice rink in Gurgaon from January 3 to 7. The Andhra Pradesh skating team also won the title trophy of Figure Synchronised Skating event, introduced first time in the ice-skating, along with a cash prize of Rs 21,000.

R. Arun Kumar claimed two gold medals while Priyam Tated, Divya Tated, A Saisamhitha, M Vishal Anand, R. Farheen Sheikh won one gold medal each. R. Farheen Sheikh, Riya Saboo, R. Farheen Sheikh, Ch. Sree Ram and Divya Tated won silver medals in different events of the championship. General Secretary of Shivaji Park Skating Association (Vizag), Mahendra Tated told it is for the first time that all the participants from the state claimed medals.

A total of 250 skaters from 13 states in the country and a few foreign players from Muscat, UAE and Japan also took part in the championship. The AP players were trained by noted coach A. Pavan Kumar. “The AP team will be returning to Vizag city on Sunday and all the medal winners and coaches will be felicitated by the Skating Association at Shivaji Park Skating Ring on Monday,” he added.
